 Job Description
Position Overview Financial Controller will provide broad financial, analytical and business support for CLIENT’S’s India businesses. Financial Controller will play a significant role in preparing the financial roadmap for business growth. The Controller will have direct responsibility for implementing and maintaining controls in line with U.S. and local GAAP requirements, and CLIENT’S's Accounting Policies. The Controller will also be responsible for financial Shared Service activities and for finance structure with input from Treasury, Tax and the corporate controller. He will also be the main point of contact with outside professional financial services and consulting firms engaged in India. The position will offer considerable exposure to all CLIENT’S businesses participating in India and the Corporate HQ group. Responsibilities The Controller will be responsible for all facets of financial and accounting activities for India. This individual will work in strategic partnership with the Managing Director—India. The successful candidate will provide financial leadership, guidance and support to the Business Unit heads and the entire India finance organization. This includes conducting financial and business analyses to identify potential problems and opportunities, and recommending actions, preparing/supporting the development of strategic and annual operating plans, as well as leading acquisition due diligence. Manager will devote significant time to improving the control environment and financial processes and discipline in the manufacturing plant. Specific responsibilities include the following: Financial Analysis/Management and Decision Support • Work closely with functional and business unit leaders in conducting detailed financial and business analyses to identify potential problems, determine root causes and recommend appropriate solutions • Develop and maintain forecasting processes that accurately predict future performance and motivate actions to ensure achievement of agreed targets • Develop and maintain functional and business unit reporting processes that accurately describe performance of key business and financial parameters • Generate the annual financial budget • Support business/operations related financial evaluations Shared Services • Lead the Shared Services team and ensure that work is performed in line with U.S. and local GAAP requirements • Deliver highest level of service in line with established service level agreements, while maintaining lowest cost possible • Continuously look for ways to improve transaction processing efficiency, quality and cost performance • Communicate performance to constituents on a frequent and timely basis Strategic Planning • Work closely with the Managing Director—India and SBU leaders in deploying a robust and effective strategic planning process for the Group • Lead financial portion of the strategic planning process, ensure that results are properly scoped, presented, tracked and reported Internal Control Systems • Develop and maintain appropriate internal controls across all operations, including a Joint Venture • Achieve satisfactory financial audit results by external and internal auditors • Eliminate breaches of internal controls and Insure global compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and India GAAP Organizational Effectiveness/People Development/Process Improvement • In line with growth of Clients business in India, recruit and develop finance professionals and build functional succession plan • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with Managing Director—India and other key business leader in India • Continuously improve closing processes from a time, accuracy and productivity perspective • Define India Global Business Services activities, systems, policy and procedures – lead creation of an appropriate IT infrastructure to support business activities. • Identify appropriate technology to support India activities and augment process improvement initiatives Treasury and Working Capital • Manage cash flows • Lead all banking activities • Provide leadership, direction and processes to leaders to drive significant working capital improvements • Monitor working capital performance and ensure that effective countermeasures are developed and implemented, as appropriate • Assist in merger and acquisition activities • Assist in developing business continuity plans Financial Reporting • Accurately and timely consolidate India’s financial information • Accurately and timely coordinate and ensure delivery of India’s plans and forecasts • Minimize surprises through effective prevention and early communications Acquisitions • Assist in the financial evaluation of potential acquisition targets • Lead financial due diligence for target acquisitions • Lead the integration process for ''back office" functions     Taxation • Manage all direct and indirect tax activity with outside assistance Managerial Approach • Proactive and pragmatic approach with a willingness to roll up his sleeves to get work done • Strong leadership ability; takes initiative and drives change , Results driven • Comfortable to work in environment that may require designing and setting up the systems and processes. Competencies • The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to effectively manage financial activities across operating units. • Install and improve processes to accurately forecast financial results and motivate actions to make sure they achieve agreed upon targets. • Lead financial consolidation and reporting according to US and India GAAP; conduct detailed business and financial analyses to identify potential problems, determine root causes, and recommend appropriate solutions'. • Successfully support functional and operating unit leaders to understand and improve financial results on a sustainable basis. • Prepare consolidated financial statements and coordinate consolidated financial forecasts in a highly accurate and timely manner • Conceive and install standardized management accountability reporting systems and lead working capital reduction efforts across multiple business units/countries. • Upgrade internal control systems and financial integrity across multiple business units/countries; understand the importance of consistently delivering results and where appropriate. • The ability to lead efforts to do so. It is critical that the individual have a demonstrated ability to select and develop an outstanding team. Personal Characteristics • The individual must be hands-on and detail-oriented, but also able act globally to see the big picture. • The candidate must be able to think strategically and view the business from a general management standpoint as well as from a financial perspective. • Person must be able to work well in a cross-functional matrixed organization. Must be very customer focused in terms of providing accurate and relevant financial information to the local and corporate executive team. • The individual must be a professional who can deliver results and develop the talent in his group. CLIENT’S’s Manager of Finance will have responsibilities up and down the finance chain, from transaction processing to merger, acquisition and divestiture support to the highest levels of business strategy. • Maturity, professionalism, confidence and people skills are extremely important. This individual will be a strong communicator, team player who is well versed in the details but capable of bridging finance to senior management with a broad, business-oriented organization. A quick study who can rapidly adapt to CLIENT’S’s culture and gain the confidence of India team and CLIENT’S’s senior leadership team, with the potential to progress within the organization. • This person will be high energy and able to handle conflict. This person will be an independent worker, capable of operating in a fast-moving, ever changing environment and able to make tough, difficult business decisions. • The individual must be able to drive and manage change, be non-political, creative and possess a strong desire to win and passion to excel and integrate the finance team into a lean, efficient, results-oriented organization.
